Yep, after much humming and hawing on my part, you can now download the VBWorld Advance Preview of my SMS application! Here's a quick rundown of what it can do at the mo'..
- Send SMS messages to any Mobile in the UK via Lycos free SMS (support for other countries to be added later)..
- Detect if an invalid number (ie not recognized by SMS service) has been entered
- Detect if connected to internet or not..
What I'm looking for are basically lots of testers, or just interested parties! I'd like everyone who can be bothered to test the app, and then post back here with details of:
- Operating System
- Any Firewall in use at the time
- Any bugs found
- General Feedback (excluding interface feedback, coz I know it sux!)
You can download the app in one of two forms:
A fully P&D'd version (Recommended)- 1.93Mb
.exe file, and a couple of other necessary files plus instructions on how to set up - 115Kb
The second (much smaller) version requires you to have all the runtimes normally distributed with VB6 apps, and also Windows Common Controls 6.0(SP4)...Also, I think the instructions provided with the second version will only work for Win 95, 98 and ME.
Finally, I'd like some ideas for a title! "SMS App" sux a bit..
ENJOY!!!

Norton Firewall moaned about the connection request 4 times (each time was a different process asking for connection). Also it took a considerable length of time to send (whether that's down to Lycos i don't know). Also it run-time errored and said something about a modal form.
Oh, as for a name how about SiMuS or something with S, M and S in the name...

Did you actually get a message to send then?
I'm not sure about the Run-Time error, there is only one form in the project!
Do you have an exact description of the error?
Also, what OS are you running, and did you install from the P&D, or from the smaller zip file?

News from the battle front...
I got the app to work from the UK (to my mobile) running Win 98SE and ZoneAlarm every time I tested it..
Dennis Wrenn has got the app to work from America (to my mobile) running Win 98SE with no firewall..

I never received the message I sent myself.
Do you have an exact description of the error?
I'll have to try again on that one

Win98SE, the smaller zip file.

Try the P&D'd version instead....If it works for you, I'll get rid of the smaller version...I haven't actually tested the smaller version myself, but I think it should work...
