    In Internet Explorer:

Select The Delete Files Options In The Internet Options
From Tools Menu And Check The Delete All Offline Content Checkbox.

I know this is an old thread but it turned up in a search
Chris, your IE history program needs tweaking

If you delete url1 from the registry the address
    bar will look blank.

You have to go through and rename all the urls
    in the right order

I tried this in a project to selectively delete shortcuts
in the VB6 recent files list

Unfortunately my effort to rename deleted them all

I would be interested to know if you manage to rename
    the entries successfully.
