I am referring to this. (http://forums.vb-world.net/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=16071)
John, I think this kind of Avatar is a bit too much. And for this specific reason, I think the img tag is not allowed everywhere, lest people start posting obscene images.
Can you take any action in this regard>
.
Im gonna have to agree with you on this. Im not offended by it, i just dont want this forum to go in that direction.

No offense chimpface but don't you think your avatar is offending people as much as oBIOne's is.
And what about, hmm don't remember the name, but he/she has a blasting shotgun as avatar. should that be allowed/disallowed.
I agree that oBIOne's avatar should not be allowed, due to the sexual nature of it, but where should we put the limit on what is allowed in avatars?
I think it is good that we can use avatars to "profile" ourself but maybe we need to think about what we use as avatars.
Just posting this to get a conversation started.
A monkey as the president offends you?!?!?!?!?!

No I don't care if a monkey becoms the President of USA. But the fact that the monkey is giving me the finger bothers me just a tiny little bit.
So why should we allow "obscene gestures" if we don't allow "sexual gestures".
If two people kissing is offending, isn't "the finger" is as much offending?
I don't have anything personal agains you chimpface, but if we are talking about if we should allow offending avatars, then I just wonder where the line goes for whats offending. We all have different levels of tolerans so who should draw the line.
Still wan't to hear other peoples opinions on this matter.
Is this thread going about a harmless kiss?? Dont you poeple love kisses????

Sorry, i usally take the stance that if i don't agree with the content of a thread (as in i would not like to be associated with the topic of discussion), i don't post.
Chimp and honey, please tell me you guys are messing around. I would hate to think you are actually serious.

I don't understand. In what direction? In a direction where some Avataris are OK, but some are not. So, if I put a picture of a man and a women kissing, you're cool about it?
I smell predjudice...
Other forums ive been to have every other word as the f word, and just crap everywhere. I just want it to stay pure programming programming.

I agree there is a lot of nonsense in several of the forums, but as I also believe that as this nonsense is of a non-programming nature, it resides in the Chit-Chat forum. I like to see it as the smoking room of this site.
I believe the only way you could criticise the structure of the site is by the stress put on the server by the volume of posts placed on the Chit Chat forum.
Chimp, I would say on re-reading your post, that you don't find 2 men kissing objectionable; you are questioning the seriousness of the forums. Is this really the case? Honey?

You've got to be kidding me!! You find a picture of two PEOPLE kissing offensive? I don't agree AT ALL! I certainly hope you aren't considering censoring the avatar. Broaden your minds a little please!!!
I dont find a man and a women kissing offensive, but i do find any same sex people kissing offsensive.
Picture this....
Say i decide to put up a pic of two different sex people kissing. Then someone else puts one of two same sex people kissing. Then someone takes it a little farther and farther until we have porn at a programming site.

I think we should wait until someone puts something pornographic before we start paniciking.........I don't think we need to sterilize underaged people because they might have sex either......
Wow, when i opened this thread i started reading where the browser put me, the newest post. Then i saw that it skipped over a bunch, thats why this is a little late.
You think hes giving the finger? I thought it was the index finger saying he was number 1. At least thats what i got from the movie it came from.

I believe you are more intelligent than this. I can (just about) understand if you don't like to see same sex kissing. Different strokes and all that.
Do you REALLY believe that a picture of two men kissing will lead to pornography on a Programming Forum? Do you believe that homosexuality is one of the reasons pornography exists on the internet?

People, it's a chuffin' 50x50 pixel image that you can just make out is two females having one behind the bike sheds. Shall we start getting upset when there are stars in every post??
Lighten up gang. Now if it were two people butt naked, well that would be cause for concern. You get that sort of scene in everyday daytime TV!!

I suspect that that fact that ObiOne has stated he is gay in his Biog has something to do with this too...
Now, if you had told me when i was a kid that ObiOne was gay, I would have started crying :)
You guys shouldn't worry about that kind of stuff.
I mean, what'd you do, go looking at people's names and seeing their avatars?
As long as the avatar isn't of a nude picture or anything racial, than you shouldn't have to worry :).

I am dead serious about this issue.
Such things should be kept out of the publicly visible personal things like your screenname, avatar or signature.
And the time to stop such things is right now. Tomorrow never dies, but it never comes, too.
What if we had a member with a screen name F*uck_you_all or F_uck_yourself ? Or someone's signature described how he/she master bates?
You can't open your mind so much that all crap will enter it.

Honeybee,
You are a hippocrite!! You posted a story in the Chit Chat forum about a kitten hanging from your naked groin!
http://forums.vb-world.net/showthread.php?threadid=63007
Do you not think that was offensive?

If you continue this discussion then John or James is going to have to start censoring anything that anyone may find offensive to keep everyone happy. I find some of the American bashing offensive but choose to ignore it as it really is useless getting upset about. If I protested should they censor that too....what about if I find the subject of mathematics offensive...I'm sure you wouldn't see it as offensive but since it offends me, should they be obligated to ban any reference to mathematics from the forum?? Once it starts, it's hard to draw the line.
Subjects like hacking or the threats that Nukem was making are logical reasons for banishment. They are directly related to the well-being of the forum and it's members.
Let's use a little common sense and get on with our lives!
This discussion is fruitless.

Right on, Megatron :)
I'm biased against political correctness because I see it as an overwhelmingly bad influence on people -- everyone's going to be too scared to do anything, let alone humour. You just have to read the post race to find things that many people will consider offensive. You have to look with better eyes than that to see that a) It's funny to us, and b) We're probably just taking the piss anyway.
As for the American bashing...we have a go at them, they have a go at us, then the Indians have a go at both of us. It's just good harmless fun

Honeybee/All,
If any user's avatar bothers you, you can always use the "ignore" feature - click the "profile" button at the top of the page, and then click "Edit ignore list".
Then, no posts from users that you've added into the ignore list will be displayed on any threads/discussions.
I hope this helps,
James

Didn't we all check a little box when we signed up for this forum saying that we were at least 13 years old?

Nope...I clicked a link :p

I clicked the link when I was 12 (over a year ago) because if not I would have to go through this big thing about getting permisson from parents and all, and could take a few days, so I clicked I ACCEPT anyways.... but that doesn't really matter anymore since i'm not 12 anymore :)
also, by clicking the button/link/what ever, you accept it as long as you are a member, but about about people viewing the site that are not members?
BTW i dont think the avitari is offensive at all

Although your idea gives a work around, it is not a solution as if I put him in my ignore list, I shall miss any help he might be to me because of his VB knowledge or I might be to him. I am not against his knowledge, or himself, except this avatar thing. So that's not the solution. Anyway, thanks again for suggesting a way out. I am calling this quits, as I can't get these people to change their avatars.
And CompuGEEK, if you are serious about being offended by that joke I posted, I have already deleted the thread, I guess, and hereby I extend my sincerest apologies to you.
.
No offence, but I think honeybee may be a little Homophobic.
