Hey

I was wondering where I could find a list of
other sites that use the look-and-feel of this
site -- ie, that cover topics such as politics,
stock market, etc.

I've occasionally happened upon such sites when
googling something.

I initially went to internet.com's site, and looked at
the bottom of their home page where a list their sites is
shown. A spot check showed that only VBForums had
the look-and-feel I'm talking about.

OK.. not them.

Then it occurred to me that "powered by vBulletin"
(that appears at bottom of each page here) might be
the ticket. So, I went to their site at vBulletin.com.

Better... seems to be closer to what I'm looking for.

Two things:

1. there didn't seem to be an obvious list of "clients"
Any thoughts on whether such a list exists?

2. their site seems to be ver 4.0.3 (whereas we are 3.8.1)
Gawd, ver 4.0.3 is butt-ugly. Too much fluff, too much
white space. Avatars are way too big. I could go on, but
it is just so painful to look at their pages.

>>> Please don't go there with this Forum

I think what spammers do is just search on forums. You could modify that by searching on powered by vBulletin, as you already said. There is no list out there of forums that run vBulletin, however on the actual vBulletin forums, most users have a link to their forum on their profile page. You might find some that way, but I don't believe it would be searchable by topic.

There used to be a forum directory from vbulletin.com's home page, they may have taken it down since I was last cruising through there ...

... nope they have taken it down ... dear god in heaven that home page is one ugly ugly beast

Yeah it looks like something a newbie with Joomla spat out.

Unfortunately Spoo, vBulletin is very configureable and therefore you will find them all to be vastly different in appearance. Except for those run by people who like it straight out of the box and they are few and far between. This may have something to do with the appearance of vBulletin's own forum but I am not sure.

LOL .. well we at least all agree on the appearance,
and I am unanimous in that.

Thanks, guys

It's called eating your own dog food. Hard to promote your stuff and say how wonderful it is if you don't use it yourself. Most forum places use the default layout and settings because it's easiest. You have to build it with the default stuff anyways so that it works out of the box, so why not go ahead and use on your own site as is? Helps to show the ease. Plus I think sometimes it's what people expect. I've3 d/l forum software before because I liked what they had done with it in their own forums. But when I go to run it, I got something that was completely different, and had no idea how to get it to look like what they had done (in many cases there's a gazillion add-ons that also need to be installed, but it isn't obvious that out of the box, what you'll need).

Is this a list (http://rankings.big-boards.com/?filter=vBulletin,all) that you're looking for?

Spoo,
I remember making a thread about it ages ago in the chit-chat forum.
The ranking keeps changing, but the #1 forum is still Gaia Online for as long as I can remember.
