    smartassembly error at bootup

    Hi Everyone,
I had to reinstall my operating system a few weeks ago due to a hard disk failure and now I'm getting an error on bootup as follows:

"bin" has been built with an evaluation version of smartassembly and I need to purchase a license of smartassembly. I have looked in Control Panel and no sign of smartassembly so if someone can tell me how to stop this it would be great. I did not ( that I know of ) install anything called smartassembly. The error is really most unhelpful.

    Thanks
    blarney

The error generally means that someone or something else has protected a file using an evaluation version of SmartAssembly (an obfuscator as you probably have found out).

When the evaluation copy expires then that message appears. The text is misleading and you don't have to purchase a license for it. As you said it has nothing to do with you but some other software has used the tool and haven't used a registered/paid for version hence the message.

This has been seen before and you can find out more about it on this blog:
