[RESOLVED] Visual Studio Installer 1.1 Download source?

Does anyone know please whence I can download VSI 1.1? The Microsoft MSDN site appears to offer this, but I get an "unavailable" message when I try to take the two .exe downloads.

Microsoft may be scrubbing a few more vestiges of VS 6.0, or they may be "redecorating" their download sites again.

In any case I can't get the downloads to work now either.

Grab these while they're still available, you'll need them too and alternate source of VSI 1.1 may not have them:

Merge Modules for Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual C++ 6.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=F9D19334-61EC-48CF-BB4E-3AEC65EDD50B&displaylang=en)

Thank you dilettante. I have taken that download, and also SP6 for VB 6.0 for good measure.

However I still need to find a source of VSI 1.1,

I am trying to learn this deployment package process. Have made one using the Visual Studio Package and Deployment Wizard but reading the various comments and the FAQ in this Forum section it seems that several people think VSI is better - hence my trying to find a source of it. Thus far I have failed - hence this post. If Microsoft have moved it somewhere else, they seem to have hidden it well too!

That is the link I was trying, as pointed to by a URL in the FAQ of this Forum. Like you, I found that it does not work. It is not clear if it is a temporary problem or whether MS have pulled the plug on it.

I will keep trying, notwithstanding an alternative's being suggested here, and report back the result to this thread.

Reading a later thread in this forum (t=598302 post#15) I noticed that si the geek gave this url to a source of downloading visual studio installer 1.1. This seems to work OK. There are two .exe to download to a common folder you need to establish, then running each in turn extracts files and folders. Finally run the extracted set up.exe to install the program into visual studio. The total download is about 18mb.

The URL from which to obtain the download is at my post #6 above. I checked it today (June 29th 2010) and it appears still to be available there. Microsoft have removed it from their download facility, I think.

I have a sincere request for you - I have been looking for the setup files for Visual Studio Installer 1.1 for the last few days now, with no luck however :-(

Not only are these setup files not available on Microsoft.com, they are also no longer available at the web.archive.org link referenced above (this one - http://web.archive.org/web/20080513102621/http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa718352.aspx)

I REALLY need this as I am a freelance developer and I have some custom programs built in VB 6.0 that I built for some customers, and I need to rebuild my development workstation, and thus need to RE-INSTALL Visual Studio Installer 1.1.

IF YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE A COPY OF THESE SETUP EXECUTABLES, can you please share them? I would be very greatful for your assistance.

People have had trouble obtaining that download from the web.archive.org site, but with perseverence have achieved it (see post from Ghiuliana).

I have tried to attach the P.I. 1.1 download ZIP files to this post, but for some reason when I select "manage attachments" nothing happens.

There are two ZIP files, each of about 8.9mb.

If you send me a PM. with an e-mail address, I will attempt to send to you as e-mail attachments, but am not quite sure whether my ISP allows such large attachments. Will give it a try for you if you wish.

If you would like to send me a PM with your address, I will be happy to burn to a CD and post to you.

I sent a similar message to NateM, but have not heard back from him.

The forum would not, it seems, allow me to attach the files to a post (maybe because at 8.9 mb they are too big?).

It is very nice of you to propose sending the VSI 1.1 zip files as it isn't possible anymore to download setup1.exe (en) from the web.archive.org site. There are only German and Japaneese versions there. I've downloaded setup2.exe so I need only setup1.exe. Will you please send me your ZIP-files one by one at <eastman75@gmail.com>? My ISP accepts files of that size.

For some reason I was not notified of contributions to this post recently until that of belfastmark just a few days ago. Therefore please accept my apologies for lack of response.

I would draw your attentions to posts #16 (Eastman75) and #19 (nightwalker) above. Eastman has apparently placed the two set up downloads at http://www.easy-share.com/ .

If anyone is still stuck, send me a PM - and I will make/post a CD as I have done for the others. My ISP does not allow files as large as the two .zip halves of this set-up, so I am unable to e-mail them.

I did not mean to be un-responsive, it was just that I did not get notifications from the Forum about these recent posts.

Big thanks to Camoore who sent me the CD in the post!

I've now shared setup1.exe and setup2.exe on my dropbox folder at:
- http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10107434/VS1.1/setup1.exe
- http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10107434/VS1.1/setup2.exe

Download and extract both these files into the same folder, and run the setup.exe

These files should be available on dropbox public folder forever, but if you have any problems, send me a PM/email.
