I personnaly like it for designing my page, then when I get into the coding , I go for a regular text editing program. All in all, for normal HTML pages its great.

I swear Macromedia were having a laugh when they designed the site definitions in dreamweaver. guaranteed to make you pull your hair out...

I don't like it. I dislike WYSIWYG html editors in general, though.

Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

Well you cant comlpetely knock them. They are especially useful for complex HTML design like nested tables and all that. It makes it much easier. Then you can just open it back up in notepad and do the rest that way.

I am looking for a new development program, I am starting to hate FP 2000 more and more. I like the graphical layout tools, they make nested tables (as mentioned earlier) easier to layout, and faster. I have no problem hand coding, I am just looking for something to help me get the overall layout set easier and fast, then I always go back and re-edit the code myself.
I don't know what is all out there. I have seen the allaire homesite product, but don't know how people like that either.
Anyone use both dreamweaver and homesite? If so, which in your opinion is better.

I've gotten to using wordpad more and more for structure - particularly Javascripting, but I do feel quite an affinity towards WYSIWYG editors. I'm fussy as to what colour my background is!

Personally I agree with you hellswraith, I also hate FP 2000 but it has some good things and bad things! Though the same can be said for Dreamweaver..... The Site Definitions are really very bad in all versions except Dreamweaver 4 UltraDev (because the Database Connectivity needs to be better defined). Though all in all it is the Industry Standard for Web Design.
I am not saying this because I work for Macromedia, before anyone says I do! I just use Dreamweaver because it is a very powerful tool and can work with other applications very easily.
It all depends on how good you are at coding... If you a proficient coder then you might as well just use Notepad.

Dreamweaver UltraDev4
They do yes.... I could try to Email you the trail version of UltraDev if you like but I think that it wouldn't work.. Alternatively go to www.macromedia.com and download the trial version.... I think that it will be in Downloads (funnily enough!).

The other alternative is to stick with FP 2000. Though from what I can tell, people aren't too happy with FP.

i tend to use it with a group. the check in check out functions are appalling, and dreamweaver tends to forget the defined sites.

I agree that the Check in and Check out functions are terrible in older versions of Dreamweaver. (We were using the Check in and out functiuons found in FP 2000 and designing in Dreamweaver). But the Dreamweaver 4 UltraDev edition will have to be better for things like that because of the Database Connectivity.
