Hey,

Is it just me, or is this happening to a lot of people?

When I respond to a post, normally using "Post Quick Reply", it submits the post correctly, but straight away, it seems to try and post the exact same message again, which means that I get taken through to the screen warning that I have attempted to make a post too quickly, and I should wait x seconds to try again.

For your information, I am using Google Chrome.

It has happened to me a few times lately (except I don't get a warning, it just posts - presumably because I'm a moderator), so I think there may be an issue.

Based on what I've seen so far, it seems like it might be caused by the browser not being able to get a response from the site - thus attempting to re-send it.

I'm using Firefox 3.5

used to happen to me a lot... not so much lately... can't remember the last time it did.

Using Firefox 2.0.2

Strange, I raised this post today since it has been happening the last couple of days, but it hasn't happened today at all?!?!

Could it just be to do with the amount of traffic hitting the site?

That is a possibility, but it could also be a client-side issue, or based on ISP/web traffic.

I have noticed it before too but it just seems to be the message page showing that but nothing actual duplicate looking.

I've had a few duplicates actually posted, so it seems that it is being submitted twice.

I would have shown you an example, but it's been several days since it last happened to me, so it could take a while to find one!

Never happened to me, not sure if it is because I am using Opera or I am not as a spammer as you guys are.

I've yet to see a vBulletin forum that had Ajax quick reply enabled where this did not occur occasionally.

Thus a vB bug. We will just have to hope that in some future release it will be fixed

Weird! I have not had that happen. I wonder why it is happening for some users and not others?

Hey,

Ok, so I'm glad to hear that it isn't just me. I will keep an eye on it, and if/when it happens again, I will post a screen shot for your reference.

actually a screenshot won't help, we know what it looks like. Try to take note of how long the post takes to submit, which might help us diagnose along with the other essentials, browser, OS etc.. I have a hunch this occurs when the server responses either broken or delayed so post submit duration is important to note.

Okay, no probs.

Still haven't had an issue, but I will keep a note of it if/when it does.

It just happened for me here (I've soft-deleted the duplicate):
http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?p=3595996#post3595995

It seemed like 30 seconds, but as the two posts are there I assume you can get a more accurate time.

Using Firefox 3.5, Windows Vista Ultimate.

At the same time other pages were loading, and they weren't delayed - so it doesn't seem to be an issue with the whole site.

I had this happen a few times over the course of a couple days a few months back, but not again since then. Kind of odd. I always felt that it was my own fault, so it's interesting to see that others are having the same experience, including the sporadic nature of the issue.

I think it's a vBulletin bug whereby the post goes through but the acknowledgement somehow does not come back to the client. The client then thinks the submission timed out and tries to post again. A workaround would be to query the server before trying to re-post.

Hey,

To be clear, when this has happened to me, I have never pressed the "Post Quick Reply" twice, or are you referring to the client as in the web browser, not the person doing the clicking.

I mean, specifically, vBulletin's JavaScript code which executes in the browser. Not you!

Ah ok, that makes sense. Just wanted to check :)

Any word from vBulletin if/when this will get fixed?

It doesn't look like they've acknowledged it as a bug... However, the comments in that issue I linked to do have some information about the conditions which might cause it. It looks like a timeout linked to high server load. It'd be useful to know, if this happens to anyone again, whether the site is unresponsive in general at the time.

If we can get some more feedback we might be able to push for a fix or workaround but I can't promise anything.

Ok, I still haven't had it happen to me again, but if it does, I will let you know.

Thanks

It has happened to me may times. But it's just like once in a blue moon. So we can live with it for now until it is fixed.

Strange I have posted using multiple browsers here (http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?p=3604955#post3604955) and still don't get the message. Maybe it's a browser problem?

penagate

It's not a browser problem.

Nightwalker83
Sep 11th, 2009, 12:53 AM
It's not a browser problem.

However, that doesn't explain what you were saying it posts 17 and 19 about it being a javascript issue. I would think that because it's on the server that the bug would appear whenever someone posts or for different users. However, it looks like certain users, areas are affected more than others going by the above posts.

That doesn't make it a browser problem.

Hey,

Ok, this problem seems to be happening a lot tonight, it has happened to me about three times in succession.

The latest was on this thread, just now:

http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=585582

Are the servers under a lot of load just now?
