Correct!

Unfortunate that your photos are 6000 miles from my scanner! Don't you know anyone who has got one (I realise there are probably rather few scanners in your part of the world but there might be someone!)

HoneyBee , U have Presented a Rather Shabby Picture of India but Without the Intention.

Scanners are not the Endangered things here in India.
They are Damn Cheap When compared to Other Peripherals.

A Portable UMAX Color scanner is Selling Under
RS 4000 /- about( $85).

It Just Happens That Honey Bee doesn't Have one.
I have one for Myself Too.

Kzin you must be Kidding(or What else ?) by Pondering...
I realise there are probably rather few scanners in your part of the world but there might be someone!

We have even Kids Here going For Web Cams.
No way...You could Still Reflect like That.

Come on...I sense a Serious Attitude crisis.
You are Just trying to degrade Yourself.
Think again ....You are not That Poor at all. :)

My Stress is not on Wealth Comparison of Countries.
In fact there are other Organistation that do a Better
Job than I could.

I would just point out that THOSE WHO COULD AFFORD
A PC IN THIS COUNTRY COULD AFFORD A SCANNER and
I am Damn Sure of that ! (Sorry for the all Caps :D)

Any way an OFFICE Should not be without a Scanner .!
Sometimes It may be Required to Transfer Printed

Your office would need !.

Here is a REPORT from IDC on
Peripherals Market in India, 1999-00 to 2002-03

Sorry...Only the abstract is free to read the Full report
You have to use currency.

http://www.idcindia.com/Researchstore/00-01/Perp/Peripmkt00-03.htm

It says..

This report outlines the growth of peripherals market in terms of units and revenue. While unit growth was healthy for almost all peripherals, revenue growth was as robust as unit shipments. Peripherals whose demand is directly linked to that of PCs (i.e. monitors, hard disk drives, keyboards and floppy disk drives) grew along with the PC market. Standalone peripherals further triggered the demand for peripherals in the Indian market.
The report does detailed analysis on Indian peripherals market in 1999-2000 and presents forecasts till 2002-03, with a special focus on monitors, hard disk drives, printers and scanners. Each of these peripherals is analysed with respect to past performance, technology shifts, competitive scenario and future outlook.

Gee sorry guys! I made my comment because I've got a fair idea of what's available in some high profile Indian companies as I tried to sub-contract some work out to HCL Perot Systems a while ago and discovered a 'slight' infrastructure problem. I wouldn't suggest that this is universal by any means.

This doesn't reflect on the abilities of individuals or nations. In my academic life at Oxford I can recount a couple of times when distinguished professors from Switzerland and Japan have flown in after particularly celebrated and significant scientific papers to visit labs and find out how the work was done. In both cases they I'm thinking of they then flew back in disgust when they have saw how simple or spartan the facilities which were used were. You just have to substitute brains for hardware if you are poor!! ;)

PS: If it helps I'm half Indian by descent :)

My Mother is of Indian descent - her family settled in Trinidad from India between 1880 and 1920.

Well the GDP of Japan is (well was) about four times that of the UK so that allows a greater concentration of facilities.
