I've noticed most 'professional' sites prefer to left-justify their content ( http://www.hbo.com ) with only a few exceptions ( http://www.yahoo.com ).

If I had a page laid out using a table/tables I would choose to center it. Can anyone tell me why web designers prefer left-justifying?

I believe it's based on getting the page to look good on lower screen resolutions. I center it too. It's silly when you go to a site and the whole right half of the browser window is totally blank. Also, monitors tend to have a slightly better quality picture in the middle of the screen than compared to the edges.

Yeah, i agree with that, (about the centering) but i wouldn't use yahoo! for a model of great design tips.

I wouldn't use Yahoo for anything, except maybe searching...
