    Re: keyboard malfunctioning

First, plug a different keyboard on your PC.

If that keyboard behaves as it should, then it isn't anything with your PC...the keyboard just went back and needs to be replaced.

If the same thing happens no matter what keyboard you use, then it is a problem with the PC.

In that case, the Keyboard settings found in your Control Panel would be the first place I'd try to resolve the issue.

As those keys are right next to each other, the problem is most likely dirt in the keyboard - so using another keyboard would fix it.

If that is the case, depending on the type/location of the dirt, you may be able to fix it by giving it a quick clean (a mini vacuum cleaner is good) or gentle bash against a desk.

One must calculate carefully the intensity of the bash against the desk. A gentle bash should be ok. You could also try blowing between the keys using your breath or if you have compressed air.

To clean out dirt and other small objects logged in a keyboard, I turn it up side down holding it in 1 hand and tap on the back of it with the other hand. Usually a few taps will remove most stuff. For the more stubborn ones, I straigthen a paper clip and pry them out.

What kind of keyboard is it? Is it a 'membrane' keyboard or a normal keyboard? If it is a membrane keyboard and the above techniques don't work then you will have to change the keyboard. If it is not a membrane keyboard then you can remove the key "Y" and clean off the dirt or any other thing which is pressing the key "T" when "Y" is pressed... and then set it back...

you can clean membrane keyboards. The membranes are made in three layers that are not attached to each other. Trust me. My wife's spilled soda on two keyboards, frying the space bar on both of them by burning a contact in two, and gotten some kind of liquid on the replacement bad enough that i had to take it apart and run the parts in the shower.

that might help temporarily but it's possible that there's some sort of liquid short connecting the two keys and grounding one does the other.
