Are you planning to build a generic application? I would suggest talking to a someone managing a restaurant to get a better idea of what he does.

On a broad scale any business would have.

1) Suppliers
2) Customers
3) Inventory
4) Sales
5) Purchases
6) Employees

That's all I can think of.

You need to understand the business process first and identify the application product lines and specific requirements... otherwise, with such a "general requirement", then the application most suited for managing the restaurant would be a general ledger (accounting) program.
