Hello,

I am brand new to VB.net, and actual 'real' programming in general. I have scripting experience with PHP, Ruby on Rails, Django, Javascript, etc, but not a lot in the Windows world.

I have an ambitious project that I want to undertake, and the truth is I am overwhelmed by the potential avenues I can go down.

That's where you come in...

We discuss my project, my ideas, my ultimate goals, and you offer suggestions on where to start and what to investigate. How much is your time worth? That's up to you and how good of a fit you, my project and myself have. ;)

The task in mind is essentially a CAD 'lite' sort of thing, aimed at a specific market. It only needs to do a few things, but I want it to do them really well and with an intuitive, attractive, easy to use interface.

There may be some harder stuff, like calculating the intersection of one or more tubular pieces, but I honestly think it will not be a massive undertaking for someone who knows what they are doing.

I am not looking for a finished solution, as I really want to learn how to do this myself. I just would really like to have a helping hand to bounce ideas off of and tell me when they are stupid! Other areas I literally have no idea where to begin, so some guidance is sought too.

I really hope a request like this isn't in bad taste or against forum rules. Hopefully one of you guru's will see this and respond.

Thanks,

FTC

My advice to you is to use this entire forum as your mentor. If you want to discuss general programming ideas you have the General Developer forum, and when you've settled on a project, go ahead and post your questions and perhaps a short introduction to your project in the VB.NET forum, after a few posts there us regulars will know what you're doing and are able to give you the best of help.

Hlinzi: Thanks, but I think I have that one already figured out! ;)

Atheist: Thank you too. That is good information and gives me a path to start following. I will do what you suggested! :thumb:
