Just released about an hour ago.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/products/cc533447.aspx

.NET-based Windows application development benefits from increased Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) designer performance and updated components for Visual Basic and Visual C++ (including a MFC-based Office 2007 Ribbon). Web development improvements include enhanced the client-side script tooling (JavaScript IntelliSense). In addition to IDE performance improvements SP1 fully supports SQL Server 2008 and the ADO.NET Entity Framework.

The .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1) delivers more controls, a streamlined setup, improved start-up performance, and powerful new graphics features for client development and rich data scaffolding, improved AJAX support, and other improvements for Web development. Additionally it introduces support for the ADO.NET Entity Framework and ADO.NET Data Services, which simplify data access code in applications by providing an extensible, conceptual model for data from any data source and enabling this model to closely reflect business requirements.

ADO.NET Entity Framework and ADO.NET Data Services

I've been looking forward to this.

The framework (3.5) has been improved to reduce its file size by ~85% resulting in a file size of 26MBs. That down from 196 MBs originally. Plus the startup of the framework is improved as well as performance. No code changes and you will get a 20-30% performance boost. :thumb:

Hmm...

Download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Standalone Full Redistributable Setup Installer (http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/11/23/download-microsoft-net-framework-35-sp1-standalone-full-redistributable-setup-installer/)
Download full package of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1: dotnetfx35.exe (231 MB)
;)

Damn thats huge. The FW itself is 26MBs. For some downloading the bootstrapper to download just the stuff they need may be good still for single instalation needs.

I'd sure hope the bootstrapper can be selective. I just don't know what it would base selection upon.

The bootstrapper alone is like 2.7MB though, isn't it?

Yup the FW bootstrapper is that but the VS one is smaller as there is less to do/fix.

They used to allow you to order CDs of downloads (not all just things like SDKs, and PSs). Wonder if its still a valid option.

I'm pretty sure you can still order CDs/DVDs of things like the SDKs. I got the second Vista SDK on hard media for about $10.

Yea guess the price is still the same. A few years ago I order the VBA IDE SDK for $10 Sure it may be cheap for most but for some time as well as the money may be an issue. Still the bootstrapper that selectively downloads what the single system needs is the quickest

And as people upgrade their OS the whole matter becomes less significant.

Pfft! You know we have members on this site that still write code for and support Windows 98

Ok just had to post that but lets get back to SP-1 :)
