Three Tier Desktop Application

Could anyone please tell me the technologies can be used to develop a three tier Desktop application. No need of detailed explanation just name it.

Actually i want to know different java technologies which are used to develop a three tier desktop application. e.g. SWING,AWT in presentation tier etc. and how to connect them with each other . e.g. sockets etc. ( i dont know )

and i thought this is the correct forum.
