I was wondering something...
Another thing except VB, C++ and stuff like that, I like to mess around with Flash a lot. Well there is this web site www.flashkit.com and (just like this one) there are members. Well I've been looking at the registered list with the total # of members, and in about 2-3 weeks it went up about 10,000 members, everyday there are about 1000 new members there! Well I was wondering, why is that? Will people turn to web programming instead of windows?
...Just a thought...

thats not gona happen. alot of web people know it, alot of schools teach it. people sign on with a new name. the web is too slow, thats not gona happen ever. unless every one gets fiber optics and still i dont think its gona happen.

Someday it will all be web. When a person is born, they will be given an email/isp account. High-speed access will be common. When the phone was invented, only the rich could afford the novelty. Same with fiber optics

some people have to program the browsers ect. thier has to be programs on your computer. and its not gona be flash, it will be java script. what happens if the net gets hacked and it gets shut down? we'll all be screwed. i dont think its gona happen.
There is no way a single hacker can bring the entire internet down.

it almost happend a few years ago. i kid in germany gave a kid in the us a virus, it was some how put on peoples computers. it was set at one time. then all the computer went to sertan sites, one was yahoo. thier was so meny hits that it acutally made the net slow down. all the kid had to do was put it on a few more sites and he could of brought it down. but it wasnt worth it he didnt know what he was doing and the FBI got him within five minutes of it happening, hes in jail now, they couldnt find the programer in germany. but it did slow down the net for a day.

Just because there were an extreme amount of hits on Yahoo and other sites doesn't mean the entire net slowed down because of it.

the internet is like a pipe connecting to diffrent pipes. if a bunch of people are useing the one same big pipe of the net its gets full and slows it down or brings it down.
Cybrg641
Feb 4th, 2001, 06:22 PM
So what your saying is that if Yahoo's server slows down or crashes, VB World's server is going to slow down too? I think not.
I agree with cybrg,
there is no way that just because one website recieves a massive amount of hits, that another will slow down in result of that.
the way you(not you cybrg, I'm talking to nukem) are thinking is, if I start up Apache HTTP server, and shut it down, the entire internet will shut down, because my "pipe" stopped....
that is not the way it works.
and it really were like "pipes" it would be a hell of a lot harder to make a website, because you would have to get your own "pipe" from the "internet people".

yeah, when my cable modem goes out, i can still dial up to get to the internet. NO ONE, not even a SUPER hacker, or even a super hacker group can stop the internet. It is too big. Yeah, they could take down a lot of the big sites, but it is too big to stop all together.

one more thing, why do you think they call it the NET. Ok think of a net, in a literal sense. If someone cuts one rope of a net, the net does not fall apart. If you were following the lines of the net, you could still get from one side to the other, by skipping over a line or two. And that is how the internet works too, if someone cuts part of it, you can still get to places by taking a different route. Even if someone cut the net in half (the literal net) you could still get from one end to the other, within the two halves. There is no one "Big Pipe" the only way to destroy the net is to go around with wire cutters, and cut the wires off the backs of every computer. Oh and don't forget to destroy a few satilites while you are at it, because the net goes through them too!

consider this,
there's a trojan/horse super program, its target. Your router. It infects it, takes over it, drops all the routes then moves to the next router in the segment :)
Think of that one....
It would be like a widespread bushfire.
If something like that was invented/created it would shut down the internet before you could blink. Remember the viruses only target is the routers, nothing else. Without routers, you have useless datalinks.

the net as one is a pipe, to get to each site u have to go in that pipe. if thier is a huge hacker attack on one site, it cloges the pipe for the net. look at this.
- (normal net pipe) = (over loaded net pipe) | (servers pipe) \ (overloaded sever)
today:
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
------------------------------------------------------------------------
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
big hacker attack:
||||\|||||||||\|||||||||||\||||||||||\|||||||||||\|||||||||||\||||||||||
========================================
||||\|||||||\||||||||||||||||\||||||||||||||\||||||||||||\||||||||||\|||
taking down a few severs could take down the net becuase, normal users have a virus on thier system that tells thier computer to keep going to that site or pinging it. if they ping the sever the computer will not wait for a responce they'll just keep doing it.

Where the hell are you coming up with this pipe stuff?? There is no such thing! The internet is made up of a bunch of servers. It does not matter how big the server or how many, if one or two of them goes down it does not slow down the net at all.
If there was a "pipe" that everybody in the world used to surf the net, then where is it located? To have something like that would require one huge ass cable along with a huge ass computer to process all of the commands and messages.
I usually don't speak like this, but please shut up and think about what you are saying before you say it, when you don't, it makes you sound like a dumbass, it's not one big pipe, else they would call it the interpipe. It is like a big net, everything is connected to something. It is not like a pipe. If yahoo crashes, well, yahoo crashes, thats it....
I'm sorry if I offended you, and I realize you're only 13, but that is not how the internet works..

The Internet, sometimes called simply "the Net," is a worldwide system of computer networks - a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers). It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. government in 1969 and was first known as the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. The original aim was to create a network that would allow users of a research computer at one university to be able to "talk to" research computers at other universities. A side benefit of ARPANet's design was that, because messages could be routed or rerouted in more than one direction, the network could continue to function even if parts of it were destroyed in the event of a military attack or other disaster.
and just in case you missed it:

Ughh...I can see that this is going nowhere. Nukem, are you sure that you did not misinterpret what you read? It is quite possible that the author meant that if a large amount of traffic was connecting to one server, that it will slow that server down or even crash it. Then I could understand how it could be sorta like a pipe. I think you know you were wrong in saying the ENTIRE internet was like a pipe and you don't even have to admit it, but I would appreciate it (and I think Harry and Dennis might agree) if you would stop trying to prove it.

Hi, I agree with nukem996 to a certain level. I am cable internet. and a small 'pipe' carries the signal to the router. Then the signal form the router goes to who knows where. Now if the router is down, or upgrading there hardware, then all the users that are directed to that router have no access to the internet. Here's a chart to help you under stand it better (its attached)
after you look at it, you see that if 1 customer tries to take over, he would have to hack the router, which has a lot of security. Now lets say that one of the customers has a server on there computer. If someone hacks there server, its not going to affect the rest of the world. Now these customers might be regular citizens, or they might be a company like Microsoft and IBM. But at one point, everyone is all connected to eachother.
Thats why its called the world wide web not the world wide pipe

I suppose there would be a pipish nature to the internet, if you think of it as a net of pipes :rolleyes:
Nukem, just shut up about your 133+ |-|4><0|2 d3w|) friends will you? You're called nukem for a reason? Perhaps because you're a script kiddie that knows how to click buttons on an app that someone with some intelligence made.
VP is right in saying there are pipe-like parts to the internet, but it's stupid to insist that the obvious simile for it is a pipe. Ridiculous in fact. If you always take this kind of attitude, you are going to spend your entire life learning everything the hard way.
