It would be cool to have Flash made avatar, but it probably isn't a good idea. In Flash, you can easily execute javascripts which might be abused by some. And I don't think it can be disabled at all. But you can still export your movie's animation to a .gif file and use that.

You don't need Javascript to crash a computer - unpatched versions of Win9x will die on this page:

Incidentally, the code used is:
<img src="c:\con\con"></img>

yea, my school computers will crash at that website. Come to think of it, any movement of the mouse will also crash them. They're like dinosaurs

custom avatars could easily be re-stricted to 100 posts to prevent people mis-using them.

Yes, but if someone still makes a bad javascript, it will still affect the 100 posts that it is at. I have a better idea, you can accept the files only if they are in FLASH1 format. That is an option when you export flash movies. I dont believe Flash1 supported javascript.

What about if someone at VBworld was to 'test' to see if it is destructive before putting it on the web. I know it might be hard work for that person but John wants us happy, right?

it's the same as going to website with shockwave, you don't know what it's running on your computer.

I dont really think that its worth all the time. I think that John should talk to the people at were-here.com its a flash forum that allows flash movies in your signature.

It never ceases to amaze me how people will use a but without understanding it. That site you mentioned uses a code that originally surfaced on aol, when people attempted to play a chatsound in chatrooms with this path, it would crash everyone in the room with chatsounds on. The problem is device names in path. Windows would ignore one device name, but the 2nd would get you... c:\aux\lpt1 would work too. Or http://www.goofoff.com/aux/lpt1
