Hi to all,

I want to develop to the latest plataforms and i want to do very cool applications, im not a professional yet, but i want to get started from now
anyways......my question is, what programming language will i have to use if i want to develop to the latest plataforms ? what programming language should i learn ? Should i use .net 3.5 ? microsoft visual studio 2008 ?, those are questions ive asked to myself for a long time, so i would like to discuss about those topics.

I also need an advice on what career should i study, computer science ? software engineering ?....i would like to do some robotics, or making this type of things : I guess its call physical computing but im not sure, here its an example of what i would like to do:

I come home, turn on my pc, run My Home control app, im
tired, sleepy and i want to relax, i press a button from my Home
control application and the lights are off, relaxing music is play.
then i press another button from my application and the a/c
is turn on.

so thats the type of applications i would like to develop but im not sure what knowledge do i need to develop this, what career should i study.

Thanks i apreciate if someone discuss this with me.

You will want to concentrate on socket programming and building the interface between your devices and the computer - that'll be electronics.

relaxing music is play.

Consider downloading Winamp and purchasing a few speakers for your computer system.

Look into X10 first. I don't know whether there is an API to write your own interface, but it's a place to start for home control types of things.

Out of curiousity, what platform(s) did you decide to go with?

there are two standards now for control lights/appliances/etc. might want to look into those. (can't think of the names)
