    Construction Forum?

I think that there should be a sub forum where members can create that are only visible to themselves and mods/admin.

Members should be free to edit and delete posts within their own thread, maybe even be able to move it to the correct thread then finished.

This forum would be specifically for creating tutorials that that will be used in the CodeBank area.

I really think that is would be a beneficial forum for members because there is currently no good forum to create tutorial threads without interruption.

Over a month ago i started a tutorial on how to use php with mysql and i spent about a week working on it and a mod was 'cleaning up' the forum and my tutorial was hard deleted.

    Re: Construction Forum?

This has already been suggested awhile ago and we are currently seeing if its possible or not. Plus if there is a demand for it as we dont get that many entries. The demand would have to be there for supporting the proposed forum.

Um, not sure what happened but if you read the sticky thread in the test forum it states that you shouldnt be posting anything of importance as we do clean up the forum from time to time and if you are building a tutorial one would think you would have it prewritten in Word or some other source instead of writting it solely on the forums.

    Re: Construction Forum?

I am for the idea; especially from the formatting perspective and image linking perspective. It might also be worth allowing members who post in a "construction forum" to move their gleaming new tutorial to the tutorials forum.

I have a mixed opinion on weather it should be visible to other members. It is useful for other members to see it because it allows them to post comments and make additional suggestions before the tutorial goes live. Maybe allowing the author to remove posts from the thread as well is also desirable

    Re: Construction Forum?

Moving any thread into the Tutorial or FAQ forum will be as it currently is - Moderated. So members should contact a Mod for it to be moved/approved when its ready.

But other forums can give you formatting options with bb code etc. if you just create a new thread without actually posting it if you want to se a "preview" of it.

You can also use the Private Calendar to post/preview your tutorial/faq entry as that ability is already available.

I remember one of the mods or maybe two found your tutorial but you said it was exactly it. Could it be possible that you didnt save your changes one time?

Not possible without making every member a moderator of that forum.

I always thought vbulletin logged all admin actions?

And also, why would a forum need 'cleaning'? I can understand if you want to delete some posts that have questions with 0 replies, but that would be about it...

Did you read the sticky thread? We have to do that because it gets used sometimes as a CC forum which it is not. Its for Testing Forum functions and features only.

Penagate's idea of article construction forum has already been discussed before this thread and we may be able to do it but there has to be a demand more then one or two members otherwise its not worth Joes time to build it.

Makes sense, I thought we were talking about the forum as a whole. Like removing threads from VB6, VB.net ect.

    Re: Construction Forum?

Well its just an issue of enough demand to justify the need. Just like when we create a new forum we only do it if its going to be used enough etc.

I think it would be ok to have but not if only 1 or 2 members will use it. Currently over the past couple of years we have had less then a handful of members writting FAQs and Articles.
