Remote desktop technology is not trivial, it's pretty advanced stuff, you're going to need to be intimately aware of subjects like compression, network protocols, windows message handling and APIs.
There's plenty of programs that already allow this... windows has built in prorgrams (remote assistance & remote desktop) plus there are a myriad of 3rd party options like VNC, Dameware, webex, etc.
If wishes were fishes we'd all cast nets.

There is a remote desktop activeX control you can use in your own application to implement remote desktop functionality without having to know all the behind the scenes terminal services stuff.
I know there have been threads on this so try a forum search.

Yeah i know its going to get complicated.
Its not something I am going to rush into.
(and i know it would probably take an eternity to create)
It is something I think I would like to try and create myself to learn these kinds of things.
P.S. thanks for the keywords

Re: [2005] Controlling another machine remotely
remote desktop however requires certain things so it may or may not be useful to you.
First off Windows XP Home does not have remote desktop, only XP Pro and XP Media Center have it.
I *think* all versions of Vista have it, but I could be wrong on that, I don't have a Vista Home PC booted right now to check.
The other thing is it needs to be enabled (its disabled on PCs by default), and when you connect via remote desktop it locks the local user out until they put their password back in.
Some other software actually lets the user at the machine see what is going on as you control it, similar to how Microsoft NetMeeting worked (if you remember that product).

Yeah I think this would be the end reult that i would aim for.
If I am using it for support I would want the 'client' to be see what I was doing..
Would it be a network programming book I should look for?
This would give me the bones of what I need to get such a result
Just something to get my teeth into
