I have noticed that recenly when I bring up vb-world, I get a second browser window advertising about.com. I assume that it's not just happening to me. I personally find it annoying and I'd like to ask that it no longer happen.

Why is it called lipstick if you can still move your lips?

I agree - nothing is more annoying when "surfing" the net than browser windows opening without me telling them too!!. Is there an option in IE5 to stop it doing it...?

Thanks for letting me know the general concensus of pop-up advert... I had not idea they were so generally loathed!

The about.com ad running on some VB-World pages is designed to load quietly behind all other browser windows, instead of the "Geocities" type advert that bursts to the front of the screen.

VB-World is advertising sponsored, and the revenue generated from the banners and ad popups are essential to pay for the servers, writers and general up keep of the site.

While we can't remove the pop-ups completely, we have created a script that will ensure that each visitor to VB-World will only receive one popup per browsing session. So long as your browsers accepts cookies, rest assured that you will not be bombarded with adverts.

Please let me know what you think.

All the best,

James

It's not the "loading quietly" that I mind (and yes, that's preferable to the Geocities approach), it's the fact that I have to close it. I will probably keep accessing this site since I'm essentially addicted to it ;) , but I would greatly prefer some script or user option that would allow me turn off all pop-ups.

James,
could you not just put the banner/ad on the current brouwser window instead of popping it in a new window (even quietly)..?
.. or maybe on the left hand frame?, anywhere but a popup?
