Hello!
as you can see this is my first post here, though I've been browsing and lurking in the forums for a wile now.
let me inform you about myself first:
I'm a IT student from Holland where i am finishing up my study with programming. my main knowledge lies with Java and C#.NET, and for the last few months I've been looking into VB ... now, you might be wondering why I'd use a language that is already outdated, but there is a good reason for this.
first of: i am looking for programmers to assist in the creation of a mmorpg, completely made in VB6. this choice was first formed a year ago when i and a friend of mine, setting out with our first steps into programming land and figured 'lets make out own game'. this in the end did not turn out to work because my friend quit the study and alone it was to much work to do so i let it go and figured i'd find something else.
then a wile ago i came across www.vbgore.com, back then it was still in it's 0.20 phase and i was thrilled with it. it had so much potential, and best of all, was open source - that i delved into VB6 immediately. only to find out how little i know of programming. this set me back and i went on with c# and Java.. until i came across someone by accident that worked as a it-tech and knew a good deal of Vb6. i explained to him that I've wanted to make a game using vbgore but didn't have the knowledge for it. to which he said that i i could find a designer and a dedicated server he's join in as a programmer.
as you can imagine i was thrilled and went out. two weeks later i had 2 designers and a dedicated server. and we went out and started. only to find out that what we had planned was more then he, and with my little help, was able to do in under 18 months. and we wanted the game to be released to the public in October 2008. so i went out but could not find any other people interested in programming for something they felt was "to much". so i now come here and ask : who is interested in a challenge? who thinks that he or she has what it takes to make the best possible mmorpg, using Vbgore as our foundation?
if so... you are what we are looking for.
now - you are probably wondering what would have made the others jump of for. so here goes.
________________________________
the games main aspects will be 3 things. A Freedom of movement coupled with Real-time combat will give the game a immersive feel and remove the concept of "let the comp hit wile i drink a beer for 5 minutes". a class and development system that allows the player to customize beyond merely choosing skills, but choosing a entire different class to combine with. making make-warriors and rogue-priests one of a near endless amount of possibilities.
the third aspect is a dynamic story. yes- that you as a play would do affects you, the world and other players. you killing a king might get you hunted down by many npc's - or even players. or it might make the empire crumble, have you rise up as king... or queen. the power of the world is yours to take.
now that you know the aspects of the game let me give you some more information.
We will be using Vbgore as our foundation.
currently the plans are as followed:
there are 8 "Base" classes a player can chose from, and every 10 levels, up to the level cap of 50 a player can chose a class to go on in, you could pick Mage 3 times and end up a great wizard with many skills invested in that or end up a mage-warrior-rogue with point in everything for a little bit.
the world has a history and each part has it's story - which will partly be be shown in the cg intro and partly from in-game quest. the biggest part will be on the website for the players to read at their leisure.
i and my team have confidence that this game will be the best possible in terms of game play, re playability, story and immersion. the only weak part (if you call it that) will be the graphics, that are Dx8.
currently this is a project that is funded by none. and all expenses made are strait from my pocket (which doesn't have that much, being a student). so any-one willing to help should know that the only reward (for now) is my, and the rest of the teams - and later the players. gratitude. we are looking for people that are willing to spend at least half a dozen hours a week on this.
the game can and will be made, you help will make it possible to add more, do it faster and create an even better game.
so if you are interested, please e-mail Temko.Firewing@gmail.com or Pm me your contact information.
if you have any questions or are wondering about things... ask away. i know my explanations are not the best, because English is my 4th language, so ask away and i hope to hear from a few of you soon.
