Help - Cleaning up an Audio file
I need help.....
Well, actually, I have an audio file that needs help. I did an interview over the phone and the recording is terrible. The guy I interviewed can barely be heard. If I simply amplify the volumne, it is still hard to hear because the background static also gets loud.
Anyone work with audio files? I really need to transcribe this interview. While my side of the conversation is blaringly loud, it is the interviewee that is interesting. If anyone has some really good sound editing software and knows how to use it to clean up a file, I'd appreciate any help. I have the file in an MP3 format.
If you can help, let me know.
(I've since switched to a different, digital recording system, so I no longer have this problem; however, I'd like to salvage this interview if possible....)

I could have a play with it but I'm really your "last resort".
I have Sonic Soundforge but I'm no expert at it. It would be trial and error for me but if you don't get offers from more qualified peeps then I have the time to look at it.
Siff an Admin would post a serious thread in CC forum.

Try me
(if you still need help, that is)
Delete it. They just clutter threads anyway.

Re: Help - Cleaning up an Audio file
The following is a link to a small portion of the MP3 file. (about 3mg and about 3 minutes). You'll see that the recording isn't very good. I need to get the interviewee's sound up to a point where I can transcribe it. It needs to be loud, but also understandable. If anyone can do anything with this small piece, then we can do the same to the entire 30 minute interview.

Re: Help - Cleaning up an Audio file
is it correct that the first line of the interviewed is: "that's the problem"?
i hear a lot of machine sound when i amplify it and reduct noise.
Delete it. They just clutter threads anyway.

Sorry, I couldn't get anything out of that. The interviewee's voice is pretty much drowned out by static in of the same frequencies, so amplifying it simply boosts the static and filtering it makes the speech unintelligible.

That is the trouble I had. I thought someone might have some software that would do a better job.... Looks like I'll be doing the interview over.
Thanks (everyone) for your help.

I've managed to amplify the sound and get rid of static, but the other guy's voice is inaudible.
I'll try uploading it if you want.

If it is not possible to understand what the other guy is saying, then there is no point in uploading. I need to be able to transcribe what he is saying. If you think I might be able to understand it, then go ahead and try uploading. (If it is large, then I suggest using a site like YouSendIt to create a link to the file.)
Thanks for the effort.

Sorry, but I don't think I can do it. When I remove the noise, I think I remove a lot of the conversation detail. But then if I keep the noise, the guy's voice is inaudible.
All I can get is an audible mumble to be honest. Once again, sorry 'bout that.
