Foggy Bottom

Could someone explain this expression to me? I came across that in several books, but I have no idea where that comes from...

Yes it can. Sri Lankan cuisine is the hottest in the world
(by natural sources. You can get hotter, but only by
special distllation techniques).

2nd is probably New Mexican or Madras.

Szechuan comes in fairly far down the list.

What do Sri-Lankans use? You still call that 'seasoning' or rather 'combustibles'? (never been there, never tried)

My understanding is that they use a special pepper that is
a distant relative of the ones used in southern India. I
could be wrong, tho.

The New Mexican Native Americans use a pepper that was bred
from "usual" Mexican pepper. It was crossed (presumably by
non-human intervention) with some of the native strains in
Northern New Mexico. It'll put hair on steel.

Apparantly, Phal is Northern Indian, and is hotter than
Madras. India is so big, I get confused.

Ian -- are you talking about Orchids from Brazil? As far
as I know, Orchids are not eaten....probably be pretty bland

Sorry my-mistake derfarm, I saw the that there is a place in brazil called Phal, so I presumed that's where it came from.

A "paint horse" is a name given to a multi-coloured horse
in the American West. Generally, they were crosses using a
mustang stud (wild horses) and a riding mare. The colors
were not mixed (piebald) or spotted, but were solid and
clearly distinct. They were considered to have superior
intelligence and stamina over the solid color horses.
