3 people decide to buy a t.v. and it costs £30 (ok, a cheap t.v) any way one they buy it the manager tells them that there is 5 pounds knocked off the tv and they each take £1 back and are left with 2 pounds, so that means each person has payed £10 minus £1 so they have each spent £9, 3 times 9 is £27 and there was £2 left over,

That totals to £29, where has the other pound gone??

They don't pay nine pound each the actual price would be £8.33 because £25 / 3 = £8.33 so if you add together the extra cost they have paid you find the missing pound.....

The set cost 25. Each paid 9, and there is 2 left over. 3 * 9 = 27. Then, 27 -2 = 25. A fast talker makes you think you should add the two. They laid out 30 and got 5 back, leaving 25. The target to account for is 25, not 30.
