    Difference between Express and Professional Editions

    Can any one list out difference between express and professional editions of VB.NET 2005?

    why would that say express doesn't support 64-bit when it does? Why would they lie?

    If it does support 64 bit then perhaps it doesnt show on that page since its an old out-dated page. I have seen that page 2.5 years now with no changes to it.

    Apart from not having the ability to create setup and deployment projects (ClickOnce only), another difference I have come across is there is no 'Thread monitoring' debugger window.
    Using Windows XP Home sp3

    My understanding of why it says 'no' is because 64 bit development has to do with the .NET framework more than it does with the Visual Studio products. But who knows :P

    What that page says, and quite correctly, is that the Express Editions have no 64-bit compiler support. By default the VB compiler will not optimise for any particular CPU. The output will thus be a 32-bit assembly that will run on a 64-bit platform. In VB Express you have no option to change that. In other versions you can select optimistation for x86 only (32-bit) or x64 only (64-bit) processors. In the Team version you get an Itanium compiler too.

    you can manually edit the xml to add the line to control optimization. Annoyingly, this is the only way you can get the directx tutorials to run on a 64-bit system.
