Re: Forum is crawling for a past 15 minutes

I just got the "database error" page. It took about 10 refresh tries to get the site back, but, now it is absolutely "FLYING"!

I'm not having any speed / load issues, but I'll follow up with our tech guys to see if anything unusually is happening on the servers.

Re: Forum is crawling for a past 15 minutes

There must be something going on on the server(s) - it was totally unaccessible for a few minutes (between 10:40 and 10:50 AM), it was very slow late afternoor yesterday as well as last night.
But it looks like back to normal again...

Me too, but it didn't last long.

A couple of refreshs and I was back in business.

I just got those database errors, they last for about 2 minutes then they dissappear. Has happened pretty regularly the last couple of days.

We're aware of this issue, and we are addressing it, however it's not a quick fix.

Thanks guys. I know our tech guys are fighting a few spiders and bots, but those should be mostly under control now.

Re: Forum is crawling for a past 15 minutes

Arrg, the forums are slooow and makes it tough to navigate anywhere as Im getting the database error page and cant display page errors. Looks like when it does display a page there is no news displayed. So I remember this was an issue before that caused slow browsing. This is the "VB Wire" news link feeds at the top left of the pages. Seems every morning the forums are having issues but they are fine the rest of the day.

Re: Forum is crawling for a past 15 minutes

    I'm curious about something....

When you guys start seeing a slow down on the site, can you look to see how many people are online and post that information. (The number is on the main index page at the bottom). I'm curious to see if there is an above average number of people when things slow down. If so, then I'm going to make the case for adding yet another server

I think you may be on to something there but now the site is fast again and the Wire News is back to normal.

I think we have possibly been getting hit by "guests" more then usual.

Yahoo spiders are notorious for their lack of VB knowledge - so that's really no surprise is it?

Re: Forum is crawling for a past 15 minutes

Has the site really grown so much this past year that it needs more resources or do you think its a server/router issue?

Ps, your word of the day is the same as is was yesterday. I demand a refund!

Re: Forum is crawling for a past 15 minutes

Site is crawling again but I notice that everytime its crawling recently, its the vbwire news feed thats causing it. When there is no news the timeout caused by it is causing the page to hang making browsing a nightmare.

Re: Forum is crawling for a past 15 minutes

As far as VBWire goes I experienced the same as Rob - for a past few weeks every so often it won't get loaded at all.
Similar effect but less frequently is with the main ad - nothing is showing - it's just a white space.
But I never really associated these two with forum performance... Perhaps Rob is right.
