Does anyone know if there's a National Cheese day in the USA? I feel that sometimes cheese doesn't get all the credit it deserves.

3500 BCE - Italians in Sumeria invent the wheel: ideal shape for cheese. Also good for transportation.
2560 BCE - Egyptians build pyramids. Italians build mountains of grated Parmesan.
2000 BCE - Italians in China invent ice cream: prototype for Italian gelato.
1800 BCE - Mystical rocks of Stonehenge are shlepped to southern England. Used as model for cheddar chunks.
776 BCE - The First Olympics in Greece. Mammoth dried ziti are hurled as spears.
[ROMAN ERA]

100 BCE - Well-to-do Romans maintain separate kitchens just for cheese.

1200-1300 - Everybody loves Romano! Also, some knight named Lancelot falls in love with Guinivere.
1453 - The French end their Hundred Years' War with England, agreeing that Parmesan is every bit as delizioso as Romano or Cheddar.
1492 - Nice Italian boy named Columbus sails to the New World. Go, Christoforo!
[RENAISSANCE]
1506 - Leonardo da Vinci tells Mona Lisa to say "cheese." Art is changed forever.
1530 - Italian King Charles VIII visits Piacenza. Townspeople honor him with Parmesan wheels as big as cartwheels.
1608 - Landing at Plymouth Rock. Pilgrims eat with Indians, who bring along some risotto, antipasto and a nice Chianti.
1776 - America demands to be free from England to make its own cheddar. Instigators later travel to what is now Wisconsin.
1848 - Communist Manifesto written. Not a word about cheese. Communism ultimately fails as a result.
1859 - Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species" published. Court case centered around whether monkeys ate cheese too.

You a Green Bay Packers fan by any chance? (think it's them with the cheese)
PJB

yes it's the Green Bay Packers that have the "cheeseheads"
Total natural cheese production expanded from a robust 418 million pounds in 1920 to a whopping 2.2 billion pounds in 1970. By the beginning of the '90s, production had exploded to more than 6 billion pounds a year. Six billion pounds of cheese -- that's like 40 million average-sized people made out of cheese! In addition, consumer demand pushed processed cheese production in the early '90s to exceed 2 billion pounds a year.
For gods sake just go and make a green salad...and then shave some parmesan onto it...or make a spag boll...(incidently for that extra taste throw a couple of anchovies into the sauce...beautiful doesn't taste fishy at all)....and serve with dashings of parmesan. Damn off to make a cheese sandwich....or maybe two for lunch.
