First thing you can do, is set your monitor to a standard SVGA 1024x768 or 800x600.
Unless you have a popular name brand monitor, windows always sets it to standard SVGA 640x480 at installation for percaution reasons. But you can the settings. (In the settings tab of Display Properties ... I think it's the advanved button). You may also want to change the Display Card to some standard card that may be compatable ... Being that you made it to this board, you could easily go to the dealer's website (Viewmaster) and download more appropriate drivers. Personally, I've never used appropriate drivers for a monitor ... I always use standar SVGA 1024x768, and I've used that with several monitors. It's just a default driver that comes with windows. Chances are, if your Video card is any good (name brand), then windows already knows what it is and doesn't need to be changed.
Let me know if you need more specific instructions.

Sorry, that wasn't very clear.
This is what you should try first:
In the display properties, click the settings tab and then the advanced button (or what ever it takes to get to a point where you can change monitor). There will be a dialog that contains 2 listboxes, one with manufacturer names and the other has a list of monitors for that manufacturer (you may have to select an option that says "Show All Devices" and not "Show Compatable Devices").
For manufacturer (left listbox) choose "(Standard Display Types)" and then choose say "Standard SVGA 1024x768" from the listbox on the right.
Good luck

THis may and may not work, but its worth a try,
Change your Monitor type to
"Super VGA 1024x768 Driver" Located under "Standard Monitor Types"
If that does not work, Look on you monitor for a brand name and model number, Look it up on the inetrnet, most buisness have webpages with the drivers on it. For you vidio card, look around on the card itself for a name or number, If you still have trouble, call a professional.

If you bought your PC from a supllier as a whole contact your supplier and ask what type of screen card came with the PC.
If you upgraded the card yourself or had it done, you will have to peek in the box to see what it is.
After everything is solved and you PC is running properly again. Take a stiffy and copy your screen card and other drivers to it. Keep this stiffy in a save place.
I had the same problems as you but i knew what my card was after i looked at it. I then got the driver and placed it on stiffy for save keeping.
Best of luck.
