How is it possible to have a cell contain 'X2' where the '2' is a superscript?

This seems like something that would be a encountered often in science apps, but I am unable to figure it out!

You need to use some special font which has subscript and superscript characters. For general math work, you need a lot of other special characters in the font.

This sort of thing is a pain to implement. You have to provide the user with some type of Menu or Toolbar containing pictures of the special graphics for him to Mouse-Click on. Otherwise your inteface is a nightmare to use.

That is why software like MathCad, Mathematica, and Corel WordPerfect is so expensive. MathCad and Mathematica make it fairly easy to create classy looking formulae. WordPerfect is clumsier than the other two, although you can make it a little easier via Macros.

If you have a FAX machine, I could send you some equations generated by MathCad. They look great on my printer, and are not difficult to create. Not sure how clear they will look via FAX.

I am not sure about MathCad, but there is a student version of Mathematia available for about $125 to $150 (American) instead of $800 or more. I use MathCad because I cannot afford Mathematica, which is supposed to be better.

The new versions of MathCad cost $600 or more, but I only paid about $100 for MathCad 7 several years ago. It should be available cheap now.
