    Actually...

    It's really the start of the third millennium. Start of 1 - end of 1000 was the first, start of 1001 - end of 2000 was the second, and the start of 2001 is the third millennium.

    Am I the only one that finds the "2000 was the millenium", "Wasn't", "Was", "Wasn't" etc. pantomime just a LITTLE tedious? New Year's day is only January 1 by convention and that certainly was not the case in BC1, AD1. Since Jesus was almost certianly born around 4-6 BC it is all a bit artificial anyway.
