Davadvice, rather than digging up the dead, I suggest you start a new thread in the General Developer forum. However I rather suspect the answer to your query is no. There isn't really a (non-complex) reliable way of identifying an MP3 as a particular song.

Split from this (http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=380723) Chit Chat thread.

What is known about the files?
Try to find as many 'clues' as possible.
You state that they are called 'track1', 'track2', etc, is that all?
Is there ID3 data in them?
Are the files stored in a folder structure that has usefull data in it?
(artist, genre, album, year, etc)
If you can match a set of mp3s to an artist or an album then you can fill in the tracknames from the track numbers.
The tracks' length can give clues.
Can you compile a database of the music you have?
If this database is certain to contain everything you have (even if it holds more than you really have) then it would be easier to search another database.
Or do you just have a huge, homogenous pile of anonymous mp3s?

It is just not impossible but certainly involves a lot of luck and good knowledge of searching on net (I mean, good knowledge of search engine in general). I am just giving my 2 cents, but it could go wrong at any point.
If the MP3 doesn't have any ID3 info, use MS speech-to-text engine. Play your MP3 file. Grab the sound (say for upto 100 words) using the engine, and create a text file. Then search on the basis of words it contain.
It's not going to be really easy, since so many different bands, singers have same kind of lyrics!!
