This is dumb but I have to ask. Someone has told me that to load Win98 you need to format the drive first. I can't for a moment think of why anyone woulld have to format a drive just to install Win98. The person in question is moving from Win95 to Win98 and in the outside probability that there is an issue I thought I had better ask before I stick my 2 cents in.

Is there some problem that I have not heard of?

i am asuming that this is not the upgade cd..right?

well I have not heard that you have to format the drive. (although I would HIGHLY recommend it) After I went from 95 to 98...I notice 'crap' the windows folders was HUGE! There was no real performance improvement (even though other people had said there was some) I formatted my HD then installed fresh. I then Noticed a Huge boost in boot-up and loading of apps.

Like I said though I don't see why you would have to format the drive.

I do think for windows ME (full version) you have to. But not 98.
    JPnyc rocks!! (Just ask him!)

HeSaidJoe, If you're install the Win98 OS from a fresh HDD or a HDD that current Win95 (Not upgrade) then you're no need to format the HDD. 'coz Win98 did come with a Setup Boot Disk along with the CDROM.

What you need to do is juz boot your computer with that Setup boot disk will do. (Provider your computer have a CDROM and set it to boot from Drive A).
