[RESOLVED] Moving up
I am using vb.net 2003
Is it worth my while buying whatever the latest incarnation is to write simple apps using basic windows forms with images, menus and other basic stuff
or should I wait until I attain geek status to understand the innovations?
I started self teaching on vb.net 2003 at 65 and I'm now 68 so geekdom may come too late for me, unless there are any vb users in heaven????

VB 2005 Express is free and downloadable from MS. I would suggest starting there and see if you need to go Pro or anything but I doubt it. Save the money.

Re: Moving up
Heck Bill, at 68 you're just a young pup with a good 20 years or so of code writing ahead of you.
I have the Enterprise Edition of Visual Studio .Net 2003 and have been using it for the past few years and it is fine for what I need. I'm not a professional developer and so I don't need the latest and greatest development environment.
As Rob Dog said, you might consider downloading the FREE Visual Basic.Net Express Edition and maybe also the FREE SQL Express, but I don't really think there is any need for you to spend a bunch of money on new software unless you plan on making this a new career.
Just some of my thoughts.
Take Care and enjoy your programming.

Depends. Are you a hobbyist? Do you code for a living?

Re: Moving up
Thanks for the "moving up" suggestions.
I did download Express, all 315 megabytes!
Looked at it but it seems much more web oriented whilst vb.net 2003 is more my style.
I do not programme for a living, just as a "need" meaning,
if I can't find a programme for my specific needs, I write one for myself.
OK, the prog I am writing now [ a tourism student education programme]
with its screen resolution problems is one I have already got almost a 100 buyers for but still, thats not doing it for a living.
Thanks as always to all of you for your interest and helful suggestions.
Now, how do I mark a thread as "resolved"?
Oh, and I promise to invite you all to my 100th birthday, so stay with the forum til 2039 all you will miss out.

Re: Moving up
Click on thread tools at the top of this page, there'll be a 'Mark as Resolved' option.
Also, I am a smoker, so I will not be around in 2039. Can't you age a little faster?

Re: Moving up
Trust me Mendhak
Since trying to master VB.net I am ageing rapidly, so hang in there.
However, I do not eat vegies so I may have to bring the date forward anyway.

Re: [RESOLVED] Moving up
Way, way, way too many. Enough to make you nauseous just being within range of a few.
Oh wait, you said good. Sorry, none.
