AVG free edition(resident shield deactivates)
hi guyz,
I have tried installing the AVG free edition anti-virus program and it works fine...but when I installed a PC game something called F.E.A.R" I noticed that the AVG resident shield deactivated...why is it so?
Is there something wrong with the AVG itself or a conflict between the game and AVG?

Maybe the game disables the resident shield?
It wouldn't be suprising (but it is bad) since games can run quite slowly if for example an automated scan happened in the background or that the resident shield tries to check the game for any viruses, hence slowing it down quite a fraction.
I know this sounds a bit drastic, but have you tried reinstalling the antivirus or the game at all?

If the AVG services are running ,then there is nothing much to worry about.

AVG is very simple to disable though, so maybe the game does that ...
Nortons is harder, but is also easy enough ..
goto the Services Snap in and see if they are Started or not.
AVG7 Alert Manager Server should at least be Started.
thats avgamsvr.exe in the process list ..
avgcc.exe is just the AVG Control Center ..
That would be in the process list if is in the sys tray.
AVGRSSVC.EXE though is the AVG Resident Shield Service
but it wont be listed in the services list i just noticed .
I searched all services but still cant find it ..
i know where it is located though, just dont see it in the services.
Also did you have any other antivirus on there before, as ive had problems with AVG in the past where the services would not start or the program could not even be installed .. at that point i ended up going with another free one, normally after cleaning it up of viruses and malware, AVG then installed fine.
