A New Datacombo

Does anyone want to help me make a new datacombo control? I have one started but I am running into some problems. If you'd like to help then reply and I will send you what I have so far. I want it to be be able to sort and filter the list, have more than one column and be able to store the bookmark and id of the selected record but show another field in the text section. I am using a textbox, command button, and the datagrid as a list.

So far so good, but it populates the grid but shows the records as blank???? Something is not painting right?
