Hi,

I have seen a few posts about VS2005 on Vista, mainly on the pre-release versions. Now Vista is officially out and there is SP1 for VS2005, I was wondering what people thought about stability for development now, and if anyone has come across any show stoppers?

Cheers,

Jud

Well, it was only officially out as of yesterday, so it is probably a little premature to get a lot of feedback on it.

My feeling is, some will, some won't, so what.

There was quite a discussion about Vista (I think in the chat section) and I think the general opinion was that there isn't going to be any great stampede to Vista in the near future.

Sa far as stbility goes, I don't think there is any reason to think Vista would be any different than any previously released OS by Microsoft.

Guess this relly doesn't shed much light on your question, but then I don't anticipate being a big Vista user in the near future.

Enjoy your Vista.

Vista has been officially available since Last November, to those with a MSDN subscription, so I suspect there is quite a few sources of feedback.

Personally I have not installed visual studio on it yet, merely using it as a test platform.

I would be interested in anyones experience though.

Hi, thanks for the comments.

Yes, as Slaine points out MSDN subscribers have had it since Nov 06, including me, but done nothing with it!

I agree with you AIS4U that there won't be a great stampede for it, and I am inclined not to go with it for my dev machine as I am working on an important project at the moment, and the last thing I would need is for Vista to cause problems :)

I may put it on a VM and see how it does.

Hopefully we can use this thread to keep each other up to date with our experiences?

Cheers,

Jud

This isn't exactly a C# question so it doesn't belong in the C# forum.

I would not use VS 2005 on Vista without the service pack. With the service pack it has ran fine for me, but I've not pushed it very hard.

(In my opinion) Putting Vista onto a VPC window and then using Visual Studio 2005 with the service pack is pushing the limits unless you have a high powered machine and can dedicate a chunk of memory to the VPC.

Speaking marketing talk - I've heard that Microsoft claims Vista is the most tested operating system version they have released. Even so, it is relatively new software, so there is a chance for bugs. Then again, there will always be bugs in software :)
