winlogon.exe cant start

Hi after playing around with my O.S I lost a Dll. Now Windows says winlogon.exe cant start because its missing comdlg32.dll. The O.S cant start because of this missing file. How can I re install it by a boot tool so that I don't loose my Data.

Start in SAFE MODE then copy the file from a CD or something.

I agree with him. But check it first if it exists by searching that file. Maybe it has been uninstalled also.

The funniest thing is that cant access any interface, be it DOS or the windows interface, another issue is that even safe mode gives me the same error and prompts me to reboot.

Boot it through your bootable windows CD and reinstall it. It will only take 20 minutes or so.

Reinstalling will not delete all your personal data.

The steps for a reinstall wont be as similar as a fresh install. While booting from the CD what should I be looking for and working it out with. Thanks

I cannot remember all the steps but if you will give the options to choose then I might remember it.

But first, boot the CD and tell me what are the options there.
