well for me i dont see the point of it when normal xp will do there is alot of programs that are needed to run media center that can eat up memory ( or all the encouters i've had ) i just find alot of features that are pointless unless that is you are using it for a media center as the name implies

Well i really like it. My dad told me that i can get the TV tuner for like 30 dollars and i should wait till my birthday (in 2 days) when i might get some more money or gift cards. Then i can hook my TV to it and record shows and watch tv on my computer.
I cant tell you how happy i am!!!

Well if you turn off the Media Center Services, but then that feature wont work probably .. Didnt have much time to play with the OS to know what happens when those services are disabled though .. you can start by disabling all the other unneccassary services though ..
What are the PC specs anyways ..?

Re: My new computer :D
My computers better than that with Media Center edition. Even turned it into a music studio. My computer speakers alone are 3 ft tall with some 15's in them. Even got my keyboard and turntables hooked into it, and ready for recording, and have extra inputs for guitars, bass, and a mic. I use Cakewalk Plasma to create my music, and even got some software synth plugins such as Symphonic Choirs, Reaktor 5 (which alone comes with over 60 synthesizers), and VSampler 3. I love my setup.
Here are my specs:
OS: Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2
PC: AMD 64 Dual Core Processor 4500+, 2 GHz DDR2 Ram, 250 Gig Harddrive 7500RPM, RealTek Audio Sound Card, 8 USB Inputs, 8 speaker outputs. Another sound card called Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi.
Keyboard: 76 Key Yamaha Portable Grand DGX-220 MIDI keyboard. Not Including 3 synthesizer programs such as Triangle II, Dreamstation DXi2, and Symphonic Choirs.
Receiver: Yamaha Natural Sound AV Receiver HTR-5950, 8 speaker outputs each at upto 110 Watts per channel. Currently hooked into my PC.
Speakers: 2x Fisher Studio Standard ST-828, 8 Ohm 100 Watt speakers, each with 15in Woofers. Who needs cheap PC speakers anyways.
Turntables: 2x Stanton STR8-60 Turntables (1 kgf-cm Torque).
Mixer: Stanton SMX-201 Professional Preamp Mixer.

Here's an interesting site, helped me refurb/upgrade some older Emachines recently.
http://www.emachine-upgraders.info/
And here is your PC (supposedly).
http://www.emachine-upgraders.info/d.../D101GGC.shtml
http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d101ggc/
Emachine notes DDR2 3200 (400Mhz) while the other ones says DDR 3200 (400Mhz) which is conflicting .. you could always look at the inside for a Mobo model number. Either way Emachines must have got a good deal on those boards .. its not really top of the line or new hardware.
More info ..
http://review.zdnet.com/eMachines_T5...-32081796.html
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/eMach...oductDetail.do
Everything points to it having DDR and not DDR2 memory.
Also it does have a PCI Express Slot so thats not bad.
Nice PC for the price though. Though you could build one $100 less with better components ... I like their cases though, recently gutted an older Emachine just for the case where the app required a microcase .. and used the mobo and CPU in another case for a basic home PC
I dont want to break my computer so i wont mess with that stuff for a few years . Seriously though, i messed up my old computer so much, it bearly worked. lol

I use Intels typically though, as I need them for the DVR apps.

for the money that pc seems ok. I agree with rory on the memory, add as much as you can afford, it will make a huge difference.

Re: My new computer :D
I forget how much memory I have.
Always good to get a new computer. Why are so many people talking about "this is better than that"? What it all comes down to is whether or not the system gets the job done the way you want it to. If it does, it's good. If it doesn't, then look at ways to fix it. Don't make a problem when none exists.

True Shaggy, but running a P4 on 512mb makes the memory the performance bottleneck. You don't buy a processor to be waiting for cached memory all the time. IMHO
