Dec 13th, 2000, 02:59 PM
It's about time... Al Gore lost the election for good. The Supreme Court even ruled that the recounts in Florida were unconstitutional. If there's one thing to be grateful this holiday season, its that we won't have to hear Algore for the next 4 years.

Comments and criticisms are welcome. :)

Bad winners are just as bad as sore losers!

Let them gloat, Katie. When the piranha's of the beltway
get hold of Shrub, we'll hear about all the little
peccadillos.

It's going to be an interesting four years....I can't wait until all the military folks around here who think that Shrub is going to give them huge increases in wages, better billeting, better benefits have their eyes opened for them in October (end of fiscal year). They are going to be greatly dissappointed. I'm sure they will find some way to blame it on "the other side" though. They usually do.

Dec 13th, 2000, 03:32 PM
Yeah, and just wait until the folks making less than $50K
try to spend the $3.97 tax refund.

The US claims to be a 'Democratic Republic', yet the court ruled saying that no more recounts will be undertaken What is the deal with this?!?! ALL the votes in question should be counted again, at whatever cost... Then we're talking 'democracy'...

democracy in America has breathed it's last breath. It's up to us to give it CPR to see if we can revive it. I've not much hope actually. I think Australia is looking better every day.

You're hyperventilating, Katie. This is by no means the
first time post-election nit-picking technicalities
have decided an election. It isn't even the first time
it's happened to the presidency (Check out Aaron Burr's run
for the presidency). THAT was a constitutional crisis.
This is just petty chicanery at a very high level.

We'll survive Dubya. He can't be any less intellectual
than Reagan.

You do have a point there DerFarm. I am getting a little tense. I sit in a room full of people who think they have finally grasped the holy grail or something by Bush winning. It's all just getting a bit much. I know we will survive. It just shouldn't be this hard to come to work everyday. These people are normally very intelligent. It just amazes me that they can't see beyond their party affiliation and recognize the blow this whole thing has been to our country. Much worse than Bill Clinton's sexual escapades..those should have affected no one outside his family..it was turned into a circus...if they want to debate morality they should make sure that they have looked in their own closets first. Sex is just sex. Our government is another thing entirely. It affects it's people much more deeply..why can't they see this?

Dec 13th, 2000, 05:07 PM
You see it at work. I live it everywhere except my house.
This is how I felt a few weeks ago when I started to go
hysterical.

The reality is that neither candidate is THAT much
different from the other.

Bush CAN appoint virulently anti-abortion supreme court
justices but he probably won't. The support level for
those kind of actions just isn't there...even in the
Republican party. Any who think otherwise are single issue
radicals that believe their own press. Besides, You got to
have a majority of the Senate to appoint. Wouldn't be the
first time judges got run through the ringer and not
approved.

What goes round, comes round. The economy is beginning to
tail out. This does not mean that there will be a
depression, but it does mean that there will quite likely
be a "correction" affecting the employment status of a lot
of people. Probably about the time of the next elections.

Lots can change. Be of good cheer. I've been around
politics and social action for quite a while. Trust me,
it's been worse.

Thanks for the reality check DerFarm. I just have had it this week. I know it will calm down once the gloating period is over. I never thought I'd say this but thank god the congress is split so evenly. It will at least help to keep the radicals on either side at bay somewhat.

Geroge W. Bush at his victory speech:

In the year 1800.. when our 3rd president thomas jefferson became president...

That sounds a tad off if my history serves me correct..

George washington was our first president in 1776...

And every presidential term is four years.... so just for the sake of argument, let's say that george washington served two terms (which i do not know if he did or not)
that would be eight years in office.. which would make it 1784 when geroge washington finished his stay in office... so then comes along president #2 (which i dont know who it is) let's say again for the sake of argument that this president also served two terms.. that would bring us to 1792... so that means (accoring to president elect Bush)
we had 8 years without a president... 8 years of total chaos and unorganization.. 8 years of leaderless stupdity...
then (accoring to bush) thomas jefferson came in and saved the nation in the year 1800.

And this is who you choose as your represenative you republicans? oo boy..we are going to have a great 4 years ahead of us... *yippe*

Thanks republicans ;)
