Using VB to interact with other programs(like aol)

I want to be able to write VB programs that will interact with programs like aol. How do I go about doing this? I want to be able to interact with the program by, for example, automatically typing a sentence into one of AOL's chat rooms every 2 minutes or something. Thanks.
