Very General Question

I am using the AOL instant messenger and this message keeps popping up:

AOL instant messenger (SM) could not obtain a timer resource that it needs to perform the action you requested. Please close one or more applications and "RETRY"

Does anyone know why this might happen? Is there a resolution? Is there a service I can stop and restart?

...because AOl sucks....anyway, the resolution I would
propose is to ditch AOL IM and go with ICQ or better yet,
mIRC http://www.geocities.com/mirc/ :)
