Resolved [RESOLVED] Double Click only opens app, without the file...

Just wondering if anybody had any insight into this phenomena:

    JimBob:
Not really an Indd question but...

I can double click any .indd file and it opens in Indesign.

I can double click any .ai file it opens in Illustrator.

I can double click any .psd file and Photoshop opens but the file doesn¹t!

I have checked my file info and it says open with Photoshop CS Default.

I used to run it on a G4 and my .psd files opened but ever since I have
upgraded to a G5 there is no double click function for my photoshop files.

Is it just me or does anyone else share this problem?
    And then,:

    Teressa Replied:
I am having this exact problem, but with InDesign in CS2 on WinXP. Double-click the INDD file and InDesign opens, but the file doesn't. No amount of changing the file open options helps. I've searched Adobe support, can't find anything but instructions on how to change the file open options, which is... useless.
Happened after I uninstalled ID2.02. I've also uninstalled and re-installed CS2 in Safe Mode, to no avail.
    -Thanks!

    -Lou

Looks like some misconfiguration in registry.

Goto the registry key (under HKCR) of thet filetype. See the Shell>Open>Commamd key. Make sure in its Default value, there is a space and "%1" (INCLUDING the quotes) is appended after the exepath.

Re: Double Click only opens app, without the file...

The behaviour you describe is part of the Windows OS functionality and the settings that govern it are in the file associations part of windows explorer.

    -->Open file explorer
    -->Tools menu
-->select folder options, you get a pop up window
-->in the pop up window click on File type menu
-->Scroll down the list of file types to PSD and click on PSD to highlight it
-->Now click on the Advanced button, bottom of screen
-->click once on the "open" action in the white area to highlight it
-->click on edit, you should then see a window with a number of fields
-->First field "Action" should contain the word open

the second field labeled "application to perform action" should contain the full path to the photoshop executable (which is correct since it loads photoshop) then space "%1" example including all the quotes,

    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Photoshop.exe" "%1"

The bit at the end space "%1" (the space and quotes are important) is what tells photoshop the filename to open

    DDE field can be empty

Application field is just the name to display, type Photoshop
    Topic set to System

sometimes the "advanced" button is not "always" there in that case you'll have to hit "restore" first, changing to MS default , then do the steps outlined above.

    Here's the response so far:

    Teressa
Yes, those are pretty much the same instructions Adobe has posted. And
no, they didn't work with this issue. For a while, Acrobat 7 Pro would
open when I clicked on an INDD file. I think this started happening
after an Acrobat update. I was able to use these File Type settings to
at least get ID to open, but only by deleting the INDD file type and
then adding it again as a new file type.

this really sounds like they are missing the space character in between the path of the application and the "%1"

    Sorry for the wait.

    That was basically it.

So, Thanks for all the assist, everybody!

    Teressa

YES!!! That worked. It was the "%1" that was missing. Sorry, Sharon, I
had not noticed this in your post. Thank you both very much. (It helped
me, but the original poster, JimBob is probably out of luck on his G5).
