i'm playing with vs7. It looks like the dogs!!!

Opened up a vb project, first thing i see is a basic template for a form...Check this out!

Imports System.ComponentModel
Imports System.Drawing
Imports System.WinForms

Public Class Form1
Inherits System.WinForms.Form

Public Sub New()
MyBase.New

Form1 = Me

'This call is required by the Win Form Designer.
InitializeComponent

'TODO: Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call
End Sub

'Form overrides dispose to clean up the component list.
Overrides Public Sub Dispose()
MyBase.Dispose
components.Dispose
End Sub

Protected Sub Form1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)

End Sub

End Class

oh yes:-)

It's a saying, The Dogs B*llocks.

It means "rather bloody good!"

We are considering going to VS7. Since we work on a classified system we can't use .net (security people said so I'm not sure why though). Are there enough enhancements to make it worth our while?

tumblingdown
Nov 21st, 2000, 03:12 PM
which part of vs do you want to use? I don't know whats new on the c++ side, but vb has a load os stuff it's been sadly lacking (polymorphism, inheritance ,overrides etc).

We have the horn for c# (it looks great, WITH garbage collection;-).

Unofficialy, vs7's not coming out till 2nd quarter next year. I wonder what makes .NET not secure, in the eyes of your security boys.

The system we are building is to have NO visibility outside our domain. In order to use .net, we have to have outside internet access don't we?

tumblingdown
Nov 21st, 2000, 03:21 PM
no.

.NET is a framework (like the components side of MTS). It doesn't have to have anything to do with the internet).

Don't you fancy have a project with c++ and vb and c# components in it, all living in oo peace and harmony.

I guess I'll have to research this myself and see if we can talk the admin folks into it.

Thanks a bunch!

New features in the vb language include(from the vs7 msdn):

Inheritance
Structured Exception Handling
Overloading
Overriding
Constructors and Destructors
New data types (Char,Short,Decimal)
Interfaces
Delegates
Shared Members
Namespaces
Attributes (Dim i as Integer,... i.DoSomething)
FREE THREADING!!!!!

I'm getting a horn on, and i haven't even started on c# yet;-)

Sorry about the stupid questions but we have to be sure it's worth it before we ask for anything new.

We have it in our contract that we have 30 days after the installation of a new product to go to formal training for the product. If we don't our contract is null and void.

If we go to the training we are obligated to stay in the position for another year or pay back the training out of our own pockets.

This is the government's way of making sure we don't install the current stuff until it is obsolete. Smart, isn't it???

tumblingdown
Nov 21st, 2000, 03:59 PM
I do not understand.

td.

barrk
Nov 21st, 2000, 04:04 PM
Maybe you don't understand because it doesn't make any sense. They actually state that they chose this method to make sure that any "new" or "untested" software is not installed until the developers (Microsoft?) has had a chance to release several Service packs etc. We didn't even get VS6 until summer 2000 for just this reason.

They want to avoid troubling the overworked admin people.

tumblingdown
Nov 21st, 2000, 04:11 PM
at that rate, seeing it won't be go to production until next 2nd quarter, you won't get it for another couple of years :-(

I think you should persuade them to change policy (there's always a way - sleep with the boss of IT security or something;-)

The ISA is a woman.....don't think any software is worth that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although I think my husband would like to watch. He's such a weirdo sometimes.

He's not a wierdo... all men... errrr... 95% of men are like that....

they like to watch sex, but unless they are gay they don't want to see an ugly dick pop out all of a sudden.... and well, ummmm... thats why men like lesbian stuff...
I'll stop talking before John and James get mad at me...

BTW: TD, Where did you get VS7?

I have a link to a download site, but it's only for win2k

barrk
Nov 21st, 2000, 04:35 PM
I doubt it.

tumblingdown
Nov 21st, 2000, 04:36 PM
Yeah, it is only for 2k.

Our firm is in bed with M$ (we have some labs in Redmond).
A dude from there comes round and give is a chat on there stuff (.net etc) and gave us the beta.

That's one fantasy I will not be fullfilling in reality. He'll just have to keep talking about it. 95%...really? WHY???? The thought of two guys doing each other does nothing for me. Now two guys doing....nevermind.

Nov 21st, 2000, 04:52 PM
YES!!!!!
you are soooo wrong... no offense.... but EVERY person I know on ICQ likes lesbian stuff.... Hmmm.... a few are girls too.... :D:rolleyes:

Ummm baark, you keep revealing TOO MUCH personal info.... and well, I don't like that kind of personal info from someone a few years younger than my mom...

and you have to be a guy or a lesbian to understand... it's 2 women... and they are having sex.... what part of that is NOT good?

If my husband and I ever make it over to the UK I'll let you know.

Before you get all shocked and upset denniswrenn....there is nothing wrong with being a little adventurous...how do you think my husband and I have stayed together for 19 years. We just make sure we're always together when we get adventuresome! That way there are no hard feelings on either side.

Doesn't work for everyone but it does for us. He is still lobbying for that two women thing though. I just can't seem to bring myself round to his way of thinking. Being a spectator is one thing but a participant is more than I can handle.

tumblingdown
Nov 21st, 2000, 06:28 PM
no. It is in beta 1. Unofficaly M$ say they will release it 2nd quarter next year (summer).

td.

barrk
Nov 21st, 2000, 06:37 PM
I couldn't have done it at 19 either. If there is one thing I am absolutely positive about it's that my husband 100% loves me with every fiber of his being and I feel the same way about him. Nothing will ever change that. Until you have that settled you couldn't and shouldn't be too adventurous. You need to be able to separate making-love from having sex. At 19 I wasn't adult enough to make the distinction. I can now...It's much more fun! I can't say enough about growing old with someone you love completely. It opens up a whole new world! I highly recommend it!!!!

Now back to VS7 posts.

as for you dennis, i know you seem to like to comment on everything but i mean there's something you really shouldn't comments on, i mean i can understand your "shoked" or whatever that your parents are still having sex but hey that normal man how the hell do u think your born??
