hi

just a quick note, i have started to notice that a lot of people at m sort of age (18) are starting or have already started to drink whisky, i just think that that is a very strong drink to be drinking at that age, but then i can hardly talk as i have started myself

nevermind i still like the bitter though (Boddingtons, mmmmm)

I'd have to agree with you there, zmerlinz. I (17) can't stand Whiskey, but I'm not averse to a V+C on occasion. Or even Smirnoff neat! Luvverly! But I still prefer the beer, particularly Pilsner Urquell and Gambrinus produced by our esteemed Czech brothers in Plzen...

Careful with the spelling there. There is a world of difference between Whisky (raw, smoky) and Whiskey (smooth). The tastes can vary exceedingly between different Scotches but Irish Whiskey is a world apart.

Beer is good too, but stay off the lager and try some real beer where you can actually taste the hops and malt.

Cheers,

P.

I love a good glass of Chivas Regal :) for me one of the
best.

And about the beer, Sorry Paul, but I think the
belgian beer is much better than the english.
It is stronger and has more colour.

In my humble opinion....Beer (good beer) is great but bad beer is definitely worse than bad whiskey.

I thought you Goth types went in for more of the dark cloudy reds however.

Caren't stand rum.....one of those nights you want to forget if you could remember them. Not nice waking up at 5 o'clock on Plimmerton stairs (landmark in Wellington City, NZ) especially since you had started on the rum and cokes at a Massey University rage...which is about three hours car drive away.

Actually...(and l hate to admitt any country could possibly do anything better than us southern colonies)....have to state that single malt Scottish is the best. Smooth, full of flavour.

My taste for whisky (and whiskey ;)) is growing strongly. I hope to aquire a taste for Guinness too, it seems like good stuff but I'm not quite as enthusiastic about it as some of my friends. My best mate came to visit for the weekend and we got through a couple of bottles of JD, so I must be getting to like it :)

Underage drinking is really seen as no big deal here in the UK, is it different anywhere else? I mean 12 year olds on the street drinking Hooch and thinking they're the dogs, people just laugh at them so that's fine  I blame the parents! *Harry's eye starts to twitch and he wanders off muttering to himself*

Maybe I'm a Redneck but there is nothing like chasing a shot of some rockgut (Jim Beam) with a swig of Icehouse.
Do that 3 times and taste doesn't matter anymore.

paulw

Belgian beer better than English?

NO! I have to admit most of the commercial beers in the UK are crap, but that is probbaly 'cos they are made by Interbrew SA - that well known Belgian peddler of inferior liquids.

Seriously, I think that some of the Real Ales in England compare favourably with other world beers, but Belgian beers are of a generally higher standard.

Ray, if you make it over to London, I'll find some real beers to convince you of the worth of English Ale.

Harry, don't bother with the Guiness - I got sick on it once and I have never touched it since - it was the worst hangover I ever had!

Cheers,

P.

hahahaha
dennis
you see a person automatically has my respect the FIRST time i meet him
however as time goes buy and that person shows that he is an idiot and plain stupid is what decreases my respect for them

the magician here has had my full respect since i met him on this forum
he hasn't lost any
infact i respect him more and more as days go bye

you on the other hand a different story :)

magician
if you collect enough i will send you a picture of dennis trying to get drunk on OJ

Nov 22nd, 2000, 08:05 AM
I know how to do that....

put some "Turbo Yeast" into a bottle of OJ, put that OJ in a sealed plastic bottle, but punch a hole in the top and put a tube in it, make sure it's air tight and the tube isn't in the juice.

run the tube into another bottle and make sure the tube is under water,
this way the CO2 will escape but oxygen won't come in...

I have never done it, but I know how...

But I have better things to do than to get drunk off of OJ, I could get drunk off of gin or rum(I have both BTW, tucked away neatly and aging nicely).....

but I decide not to, because I don't want to end up like some of you "people"

Paul,

Oke, I'm not saying that all the English beers are flat,
but it is my opinion only, and the most of them look flat.

The beers in Belgium such as Stella, Jupiler, Maes, Pils
they are not good because the most is chemical and they
are so called light beers.
You must taste the heavy ones like Duvel, Geuze, Rodenbach,
Palm, Morte Subite, Lindemans, Trappist and much more.

Maybe the English Ale can be compared with this, that I
don't know, but when I see a chance to come over I will
join you at a typical English Pub.

Until it happens Ad Fundum.:)

Cheers

I have on occassion been known to drink 'heavy' beers in Belgium.

Most English beers are 'flat', but that doesn't mean they can't pack a punch!

Cheers!

Basically all the goths l have run into around the traps tend to drink heavy red wines. That may just be the locals however, as wine is fast becoming our national drink. Personally l go in for whites, except in cold weather, (no remarks about Britian), when a full bodied aussie red hits the spot.:)

Me personally (although I appear to be unique in this attitide), I don't particularly like getting drunk. However, I love drinking..In moderation..Anyone else the same?

My faves are:

Budweiser Budvar (Czech not American Horse Piss)
Pilsner Urquell
Gambrinus

and not forgetting....

Smirnoff! Luvverly! Not with coke either, just neat. I've noticed that there aren't (m)any Vodka drinkers on the forum..Come on, you must be out there!

I neverever drink American Bud, it is absolutely *^%%*%$*)!!!!

Here's an interesting fact for you, illustrating American corporate mentality!

Budweiser Budvar is brewed in the Czech Republic. Budweiser from St Louis, Missouri (I think) Is brewed under license from the aforementioned Czech Company. Recently, Ameriocan Bud tried to sue Czech Bud for breach of trademark, and a coupla other things. How stupid is that? It's like Microsoft UK sueing Microsoft US for breach of Copyright....Although that's not exactly inconceivable!
