ARGH! We had typing test today. Twice. Ten minutes, write at paper as much as you can. I've done better than 2000 but today, I first made only 1786 and then little better, 1854 (all marks, no spaces and enters).
Can anyone else remember his/her results? Or has anyone had this kind of speed tests?
You must be talking keystrokes? Used to be, keystrokes
were only counted for keypunch machines and calculators.
Typewriters used word count.
Last typewriter test I had was at about 110 wpm. Of
course, that was in '75.

Looks like there's difference between Finnish and other world customs. It was a ten minutes typing test. Should have used ten fingers but when I'm on my fastest, my style changes to four fingers or something.
In words there were over 200 I think. I'm not sure as I didn't save the test.
I found my old test, 2001 characters, and in 25 words per minute. It's Finnish of course and most of the words are longer than English ones. I think that's why they use here characters instead of words.
Used to be a "word" was considered to be 5 letters. I
think they thought that 5 was the median number of letters
in a word. Any way, the test had a given number of
characters, divided by 5 = # of words. You then had to
subtract the number of wrong spellings and missed
punctuations.

Ahh...So 2000/5 = 400. I had no errors so my result is 400, right? Thanks for telling me this :)
You got 2000 characters, all correct, with spaces and
punctuation in 60 seconds??????
Boy!, remind me to never try to race you!

what is the world record anyway?
In ten minutes :)
The spaces aren't in that 2000 chars, so I better look at school the text again...
I don't know the world record.
If it's in 10 minutes, then the rate would be:
(2000/5)/10=40wpm
By today's standards, that is ok.
I don't know what the record for QWERTY keyboards are, but
I saw a secretary achieve a 356 wpm rate using a Dvorak
keyboard, and I've heard of rates exceeding 650 wpm.
