I'm just starting to learn VB and am considering learning VB.NET instead of VB6.

Is this a good move?

I'll be using this for work. I'm not in the technology industry. I'm in the finance industry. I'll be using this to automate most of my work and program with Access.

If you are just starting out, then you should go with .NET no doubt.

the IDE is WORLDS better than the VB6 IDE, and .NET is the NEXT version of VB

While you can get tons of debate over the 2 languages and which one is better, most people in the .NET forum will tell you .NET, and most people in the VB6 forum will tell you VB6.

I started with access VBA, and moved to VB6 and then to VB.NET, so I have used them all and I would never look back to VB6. I hate having to work on any project I wrote in it that we still use.

.NET 1.0 is VB7
.NET 1.1 is VB7.1
and
.NET 2.0 is VB8

so you can see that .NET IS the next version of VB, and VB6, while its not going to die any time soon, is not going to get anything new implemented to it, and will slowly fade from being used over the next however many years.

I posted the same question because VB6 users might say one thing and VB.NET users might say another. I don't want to only hear what VB6 users have to say about this topic. That would be biased.

I'm in the middle on the issue, but if I were starting out, I'd go with .NET
