problem installing phpmyadmin?

Hi all could any one tell me what file inside phpmyadmin i need to modify in order to be able to use it. i have the following information :

Your database information:
Name: jasondb
Username: jason
Password: no password needed
Host: localhost


i keep getting the following error:

Welcome to phpMyAdmin 2.8.0.3

MySQL said:  

#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured) 

 
Open new phpMyAdmin window

You need to edit the config.inc.php file
