I am a beginner. And I have just completed my first book. What next?

I just completed my first book and have been programming for 4 months. What should be my next step to learning more.

Depends on what book? If as seems typical it was teach yourself vb in 21 days, try more vb in 21 days, vb databases in 21 days. Or you could learn some better ways of doing things through Hardcore, Mastering etc.

I would suggest subscribe to the Visual Basic Programmers Journal, start a project like an address book, simple game (Yahtzee is a great teaching one), and keep putting questions onto this board.

Try www.planetsourcecode.com (http://www.planetsourcecode.com) many projects etc to download and muck about with. Have used various ideas etc from this board. :)

Start building a project for yourself or a local small business, for no or little money. Great experience! Also get a reference book (like USING VISUAL BASIC) or something similar to help you on your way.

You can also choose to specialize in an area of interest (eg. Client/Server databases, ActiveX controls, Windows utilities, etc) and buy the appropriate book to walk you through.

What area are you most interested in? If it's API's, then a GREAT book is Dan Appleman's Visual Basic Programmer's Guide to the Win32 API(ISBN: 0672315904). But I would start learning more about whatever you want to know more about.
