    1st NF - a table should not contain repeating groups.
    2nd NF - any fields that do not depend fully on the primary key should be moved to another table.
    3rd NF - there should be no dependency between non key fields in same table.

    Re: Excel opening issue

    When the file was saved the "Read-only recommended" option was selected.

    To reverse this, you will need to open the file, selecting No at the read-only prompt.
    Then select File->Save As.
    In the Save dialog select the Tools->General Options menu.
    In the dialogbox uncheck the "Read-only recommended" option, then OK.
    Click the Save button and say yes to the replace file.

    Then the next time you open the file you won't get that message.
